Equipment Review 5

A number of large companies have new equipment out in the market for 2008, and here are a few samples of what you can expect.

TITLEIST

Titleist have long been considered clubs for better players, but for 2008 they have introduced some excellent new irons that should suit all standards of players.  The AP1 and AP2 are forged cavity back clubs, affording the player a little more help on off centre hits.  As with all Titleist clubs, the look is what draws people to them and these are no different.  The AP2 irons have already been used by Adam Scott to win the Quatar Masters this year.

The AP1 irons have a little more offset, to help square the clubface for some players, while the AP2 irons are a little more traditional in the set up.

To complete the new additions, Titleist have introduced the new ZB range of irons, a lovely looking combo set with larger cavities in the long irons, reducing the size through to the short iron muscle backs.

CALLAWAY

Callaway have dipped their toes into the players' club market with their new blades.  Aimed at the low handicap variety of golfer, it is a complete digression from their normal range of clubs.  Bill Abbott says. "I saw them at the Trade Show in Orlando and they looked beautiful, but not a great deal of hitting surface for the average player!!"  They are due out later in the year.

For all you club makers and club fitters out there, the new buzz going around the Show was quick fix or I mix range of heads and shafts.

With the R & A's recent rule change regarding adjustable golf equipment, a number of companies have brought out a range of interchangeable heads and shafts to custom fit the player precisely.

This type of technology brings a multitude of new fitting options for the clubmaker and also for the player who fancies changing his driver head or shaft to suit the course conditions.

Callaway, Taylormade, Nickent and Snake Eyes have got fitting carts with this type of technology available.
