Night Golf
|
It has been said on more than one occasion that it looks like I play golf in the dark, but recently I had the pleasure of doing exactly that! Night golf has been around for some time now and is growing in popularity as a fun alternative for people at Golf Clubs.
We decided to have a go at my Golf Course, Darenth Valley in Kent, and although many of the players took a bit of convincing, we managed to turn out 14 teams for the inaugural event. Omniglow (www.omniglow-europe.com) provided everything for the evening's entertainment, from glow sticks for your bag, night light golf balls and glow markers for the fairways and greens. Texas Scramble was the format and we teed off in the pitch black, hoping to see our tee shots soar in the night sky like fireworks, but it wasn't quite as easy to see the ball as we were led to believe! For the first couple of holes we needed a bit of extra time to get used to seeing where the balls lie.
It was certainly an interesting 9 holes of golf and you would be amazed how easy putting becomes when you cant see the break and just hit it at the hole! We were lucky that we had a lovely evening for it, crisp and clear, and I think that should have an impact on what time of the year you play this type of competition, but everyone I spoke to had a great time and would definitely play again.
The scoring was surprisingly good with a mixed bunch of handicappers, but my team of highwayman managed to edge into first place with a level par score (told you I was good in the dark!) If you would like to have a different type of competition for your course, I would definitely recommend giving this a go. It's a fun way to get people involved in the evening at your Golf Club.
