Z-WEDGES FROM TAYLORMADE Strong, sharp grooves, designed to deliver added traction and channel unwanted debris from the ball, are a feature of the new TaylorMade Z TP wedges available from the end of April. Superceding the popular Y-cutter wedges, the clubs have been welcomed by TaylorMade Tour Pro's who also love the smokey-looking PVD non-glare finish that is said to be as durable as it is attractive. The new grooves, says TaylorMade, promote increased spin to help stop the ball more quickly, while the distinctive rac Feel Pockets help to channel impact vibration and deliver a soft, yet solid feel at impact. The Z TP wedge will be available in five lofts - 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60 degrees (the middle three also have a C-grind sole version to make it easier to open the face), and will carry a recommended price of £89 each. |

BENROSS MAKING STRIDES VALUE FOR MONEY GOLF EQUIPMENT Benross, the Webridge based company which has made great strides in providing value for money for discerning golfers, aims to step up its impact in 2008 with a new range of equipment. Among its innovative products is the appropriately named Innovator driver, which made its debut at the Munich Golf Show in October and at £129 is highly rated in its class. It features a unique arch-shape head to help keep the face square at impact and a Trajectory Control System delivered to change ball flight through manipulation of weights. Loft options are 10-, 12- and 14 degrees in right hand only. The VELOCT driver (£99) features a classic pear shape, but with similar lofts and a left-handed option. As well as producing VELOCT fairway (£79.99) and escape clubs (£69.99), each in four loft options and five shaft flexes, Benross has also introduced VELOCT Combo and the Tri-Mass iron sets. The new Combo's have taken the best of the successful VX Combo irons and improved them to compliment the Escape utility clubs, making them even more forgiving with an undercut cavity and thin face. Fitted with a vibrant red grip and either the Grafalloy Pro-Launch Platinum or True Temper Dynamic LITE steel shaft, they are guaranteed to get the ball airborne more quickly, says Benross. Standard set is 5-SW (mens), 6-SW (women), allowing the introduction of VELOCT Escape hybrids. Prices start at £229 (steel) and £269 (graphite). TriMass irons, superceding the successful VX5's, feature similar technology with a progressive weight distribution and top line thickness to make longer and mid-irons easier to hit. Available 5-SW from £249. Innovator wedges are priced at £49.99 and the Innovator stand alone putter - line it up, leave it and check the alignment - costs £89.99. As with all golf equipment these days, the majority of clubs are pretty decent, but if you are looking for a good, low price alternative to the big name manufacturers, then these are definitely worth a try. |
