The following feedback is from EGTF Master Professional, Sharon Hinton, who attended Helen Thomson's Golf Injuries Clinic on 5 December 2006 at Forthview Golf Academy, Scotland.

"With the use of a mobile skeleton and model of the human spine, all students received plenty of visible information which was put across clearly and in our language.

Geanie, another physiotherapist working at Helen's Practise was also on hand for practical demonstrations and discussion during breaktime.

Helen advocates exercise using the lateral thigh trainer, total gym, walking, cycling etc all of which strengthen the body in preparation for golf.

We all have different physical skeletal and muscular barriers which impede our ability to swing the golf club as 'expected'.  Therefore, as Helen explained 'is your body your handicap?'

In golf, lower body symmetry is specific and a good, stable base is essential, therefore skeletal symmetry is essential.  Most students attending had asymmetrical pelvis problems.  Looking at most of us that attended, Helen and Geanie could be very busy next year!

Helen Thomson also proved her theories by using a live model in the form of John Guzik, who by the end of the session, visibly gained height.  Height was measured before and after treatment.

Frank Scott met Helen Thomson after several unsuccessful treatments.  He'd been treated at the site of the pain he'd been experiencing rather than getting to the 'root' of the problem.  Reminding us of the well known EGTF phrase, 'the effect had been treated, but the cause had not be found!

I think we were all enlightened by this seminar and I will certainly be asking more of my students whether certain positions in the golf swing are comfortable or even possible to reach.  If not, I will have to think again to help that particular student improve without further damage to their body, and recommend seeing a physiotherapist with a view to receiving some feedback with their permission.  I'm very lucky to be working with a local physiotherapist who has attended some seminars with me.  I would like her to come to Scotland with me to see Helen Thomson's theories for herself."

Sharon also attended Dr Paul Hurrion's seminar on 'Biomechanics within Golf' on 6 December 2006.

"This seminar was superbly presented with swings recorded on a footscan plate and information viewed and explained by Dr Paul Hurrion.  The knowledge I gained on sports biomechanics has helped me tremendously with coaching all levels of golfer."
